YouTube Play. A Biennial of Creative Video aims to discover and showcase the most exceptional talent working in the ever-expanding realm of online video. Developed by YouTube and the Guggenheim Museum in collaboration with HP, YouTube Play hopes to attract innovative, original, and surprising videos from around the world, regardless of genre, technique, background, or budget. This global online initiative is not a search for what’s “now,” but a search for what’s next. Visit youtube.com/play to learn more and submit a video.

Now through July 31, 2010, participants are invited to submit new or existing videos created within the last two years at youtube.com/play. Submissions may include any form of creative video, including animation, motion graphics, narrative, non-narrative, or documentary work, music videos, and entirely new art forms.

The Banff Mountain Festival is seeking mountain and adventure films! For over 30 years, the Banff Mountain Film Festival has showcased a selection of films from around the world during a nine day Festival that takes place annually in Banff, Canada. A pre-selection committee narrows down 50+ films from over 300 entries. The selected films are then viewed by our international film jury and shown to the public during the Festival from October 30 to November 7, 2010.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: METAMATIC RESEARCH INITIATIVE

DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 1, 2010, 6PM

As part of our efforts to stimulate artistic research, we are inviting proposals for six commissioned works of art. We invite artists from all disciplines to submit proposals. The works of art should question and explore the relationship between the maker, the viewer and the status of the art object. The starting point for this research is the artistic legacy of Jean Tinguely’s Métamatics, a series of sculptural machines capable of producing works of art.

An international jury of experts will make a selection from the proposals after the deadline on 1 September 2010. The six successful applicants will receive a commission to execute their proposals. (more…)

CALL FOR ARTISTS: THE PEACE PROJECT

What’s your vision of peace? Soldiers laying down their arms? The smile of a child who’s overcome the trauma of war? Picasso’s famous dove? Or something more abstract yet just as powerful?

That’s the challenge — and promise — of The Peace Project, an international collaborative art competition and exhibition created to connect peace-minded individuals everywhere. Artists from around the world, working in diverse mediums, are invited to submit their creative interpretations of peace. Their collective vision will be unveiled September 21, 2010 at a press event at Gallery 9 in Los Angeles, followed by an opening reception on Saturday, September 25. The exhibit will subsequently travel to San Francisco and New York in conjunction with a simultaneous online exhibition. (more…)

The Aesthetica Creative Works Competition is internationally recognised for identifying new artists and writers and bringing them to international attention. Previous finalists have achieved success and recognition with accolades including: writing commissions from Channel 4, selection to represent Australia in the Florence Biennale, exhibitions at DACS (London), John Martin Gallery (London), Flores Fine Art Gallery (New York), inclusion in the International Drawing Competition exhibition (Poland) and the National Geographic International Photographic exhibition. The Aesthetica Creative Works Competition represents the scope of creative activity today, and provides an opportunity for both new and established artists to nurture their reputations on an international scale.

Soulocentric Performing Arts (formerly Solocentric Theatre and Dance) is seeking applications from independent artists and small arts organizations for solo shows for the Soulocentric Festival taking place October 5-9th, 2010 at the Vertigo Studio Theatre with a special ‘dance day’ performance Oct 1st at the Cochrane Ranchehouse Theatre. We will be presenting both main-stage (full length) productions and cabarets (for short works). Artists from Theatre, Dance, Music and cross disciplines are invited to apply for this year’s Festival. Following the renovation of a large factory in Karlín, a former industrial quarter in Prague 8, there was created a unique complex of art studios and galleries called Karlin Studios that became the first of its kind in Prague. The founder and initiator of this non-profit project is FUTURA, o.s., which is also one of the members of the Karlin Studios civic group.

‘Art From the Unknown’ is a free art gallery for new and emerging artists being hosted by Rachel Notley, MLA for Edmonton-Strathcona.  This event will provide an opportunity for new and emerging artists to display their work and connect with community patrons.

The event will occur from October 22-24  at the Old Strathcona Centre for the Performing Arts, 8426 Gateway Blvd. The submission deadline is September 10th, but space is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis so we encourage artists to submit their work as soon as possible.
