‘Art From the Unknown’ is a free art gallery for new and emerging artists being hosted by Rachel Notley, MLA for Edmonton-Strathcona.  This event will provide an opportunity for new and emerging artists to display their work and connect with community patrons.

The event will occur from October 22-24  at the Old Strathcona Centre for the Performing Arts, 8426 Gateway Blvd. The submission deadline is September 10th, but space is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis so we encourage artists to submit their work as soon as possible. The MARMITE PRIZE FOR PAINTING is the only erratic, challenging and nomadic biennial open submission painting exhibition in Britain. The MARMITE PRIZE FOR PAINTING is open to all. We will accept entry by post or e-mail. Click here to download the application form.

As is the case with most open submission competitions, we have a set of rules devised to make the procedure fair and just for all applicants. Please read through these before submitting an application.

The 2010 Marmite Prize for Painting will be touring to:  Central Art Gallery, Tameside, December 2010 to February 2011; Lanchester Gallery Projects, Coventry, March 2011; The Nunnery, London, April 2011.

Dates for the open west 2011 are announced - an annual open competition and exhibition, inviting submissions from national and international artists practising contemporary and conceptual art, inclusive of painting, installation, film, photography, print and sculpture.

UBE, Centre for the Urban Built Environment is delighted to be announcing its annual open submission competition. Now in its fourth year the competition attracts entries from around the globe. Artists, architects and designers are invited to submit work that responds to our theme of the urban built environment.  The most outstanding project will be awarded £1000 and the applicant will be offered a residency as part of CUBELab 2011— two runners up will awarded £250 each. CALL FOR PROPOSALS: FIRE & EMERGENCY SERIVCE PUBLIC ART PROJECT, LETHBRIDGE

Total Budget: $135,000

The City of Lethbridge is inviting artists to participate in a two stage public art competition.  The winning submission will receive a commission to create and install a public art work on the site of a new City of Lethbridge Fire Hall.  A new downtown Fire Hall and Headquarters Facility is being built to replace the existing #1 Fire Hall in Lethbridge, Alberta (population 86,659).  All administrative, inspections, Emergency and Disaster and Public Safety and Communications services will be co-located into one facility improving the synergy of Emergency Services. The modern architectural form of this three-storey major Civic Building will express the dynamic program while supporting the City’s commitment to revitalizing Downtown Lethbridge.  The mission of Fire and Emergency Services is to serve the community by preserving life, preventing injury/illness and protecting property in a professional and timely manner. Sideshow Gallery is seeking submissions for our annual group show. Menagerie will be a playful collection of artwork exhibited in clusters according to type - as a zoo might be laid out.

Artwork to be 14 x 14” or smaller and all media to be considered provided it is wall friendly.  Submission to Include CV, 5 – 10 images (no original artwork), Image List, and Artist Statement or Proposal. RED DEER COLLEGE ACCEPTING INSTRUCTIONAL APPLICATIONS SERIES 2011

Red Deer College is accepting instructional applications for Series Summer School of the Arts 2011.

SERIES is a residential adult arts program at Red Deer College, located in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, that offers weeklong courses in a variety of mediums, including painting, printmaking, drawing, sculpture, glassblowing, flameworking, jewellery, metalsmithing, carving, book arts, ceramics, photography, bronze-casting, animation, and more.  Courses are usually 5 days in length and run Monday to Friday from 9AM – 4PM, with a 1 hour break (for a total of 30 instructional hours). In addition to classes we have a number of social events planned throughout the week, including a welcome BBQ, a dinner and instructor slideshow, and a student exhibition that showcases the work of our participants throughout the week.

The dates for our 2011 program are July 4 – 29, with the exception of the Hot Glass portion which will run from June 6 – August 12.  If you are interested in applying please email  continuingeducation@rdc.ab.ca
