“ASK A CURATOR” DAY SEPT 1 VIA TWITTER

Museums and galleries not only house facinating collections, they are also the home of leading experts who love to share their passion for art, history and science.

Ask a Curator Day‘ on September 1st 2010 will open the door to these experts with a unique worldwide question and answer session which will let interested members of the public put questions to museum and gallery curators. We are using the popular website Twitter to host ‘Ask a Curator‘. You can find a list of participating cultural venues in the ‘who to ask?’ section of this website, or simply follow the hashtag #askacurator on September 1st to follow the questions other people are asking.

Katherine Govier gives an illustrated talk about the works and life of the great Japanese painter/designers, Hokusai, and his daughter Oei. Was the man who made The Great Wave off Kanagawa the only master in North Star Studio in 19thcentury Edo? Katherine will talk about her research and her novel, The Ghost Brush. Katherine will be on-hand to sign her novel following the presentation.

As part of Celebration of the Bow River 2010

A Letter Performance is made up of a group of local residents, each wearing a single letter drawn on their shirt, and coming together to build a sentence, which will address Calgary’s multifaceted relationship with the Bow River. During the performance, each participant simultaneously exists as an individual — with their own history and character — and as part of this collective action, celebrating what animates and identifies them. This work seeks to draw a portrait of the Bow River area through its users, exposing the specificities, memory, and the relationship of the inhabitants with their river. (more…)
