VAAA Culture Tour 2011You are invited to join us for our 6th annual art & culture tour in May 2011. This time we will travel the China Silk Road, It is a journey of spectacular landscape and ancient culture. The Silk Road is of historical significance in linking the East and West in areas of art, culture and trade. DunHuang (UNESCO Heritage site) is one of China’s greatest art treasures. A detailed itinerary and cost of the trip will be available in the fall. Tour leader Amy Loewan is a native of China and Edmonton visual artist.

LANTERN MANIA TAKES ROOT AT NINA HAGGERTY

Gearing up for lantern parade on September 10 at 10:00 p.m.

Plans to launch Aurora - Nina’s inaugural festival of light and drumming - have really taken off. A series of workshops are planned, prizes are being established and artists in the studio Collective have really taken a „shine? to the idea, already creating over 50 lanterns. The event kicks off Fri., Sept 10 at 10PM from the Carrot Café, ending at the Old Alberta Cycle Building.

CONSULTATION ON PROPOSED CANADA NOT-FOR-PROFIT CORPORATIONS REGULATIONS

The purpose of this notice is to advise stakeholders that proposed regulations under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act has been posted on Corporations Canada website for consultation. Any comments are to be received by October 1, 2010.

Bill C-4, which received Royal Assent June 23, 2009, will create the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act. That Act requires regulations before it can come into force because the Act specifies that certain details of its regime will be set out in regulation, including time periods, options for providing notice of members’ meetings and absentee voting, and user fees. TRUCK: CALL FOR PERFORMANCE PARTICIPANTS (CALGARY)

During her CAMPER residency, Cécile Belmont will carry through several performances. TRUCK is looking for interested people to take part in this collaborative project.   The participants will gather, walk, talk, observe, question, remember, imaginate, wish, all about the Bow River. Then engage in a performance led by Cécile Belmont.

TRUCK is looking for:

  • -people interested in taking part in the process
  • -people interested in taking part in just the performances themselves

CCA APOINTS FIRST SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW

AUGUST 24, 2010: The Canadian Conference of the Arts (CCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Sherri Helwig as the CCA’s first-ever Senior Research Fellow. Professor Helwig is currently on a one-year sabbatical from her position as Program Supervisor of the Arts Management and Humanities Co-op Programs at the University of Toronto Scarborough, during which time she is joining the faculty at American University in Washington DC as a Scholar-in-Residence. LEIGHTON ART CENTRE ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

AUGUST 24, 2010 - Calgary – Paul Squires, Chairman, and the Board of Directors of the Leighton Art Centre, Gallery and Museum are pleased to announce that effective September 1, 2010 Mr. Tony Luppino will be joining the Leighton Art Centre as Executive Director.
