VAAA MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Filed under: ANNOUNCEMENTS, From the President | Back to: Homepage

During the last few years it has been my pleasure to get to know a very dedicated and knowledgeable group of staff and board members at VAAA. As president I look forward to working as part of a great team to ensure that VAAA continues its leading role among the arts community in Alberta

There are significant challenges ahead. Funding is a perennial issue, and it is one we will work hard to address in the months and years to come. One of our primary goals will be to examine ways to increase fundraising so that VAAA can respond to requests for programming from its expanding membership.

Another important task will be to solidify our position as a regional affiliate for CARFAC. I believe this is a very positive development for both the VAAA and its members, bringing us into to line with other provinces and opening up the benefits of CARFAC membership. We are also very pleased to announce that Visual Arts Alberta has agreed to host the CARFAC AGM and Conference, welcoming artists from across the country to the Banff Centre in May 2010.

I’m looking forward to meeting as many members as possible during the next few years and I’d like to wish everyone all the very best for the holiday season.

Since its formation in 1968, CARFAC has been working to improve social and economic conditions for professional artists across this country. Establishing standards for artists’ exhibition fees and copyright/reproduction fees are just two of the important milestones in CARFAC’s history. (more…)
