The Art of Managing Your Career and its discipline enhancements were developed by artists and cultural workers from the following sub-sectors: live performing arts; writing and publishing; visual arts and craft; film, television and broadcasting; digital media; music and sound recording, and heritage to provide emerging self-employed artists and cultural workers with pertinent and practical information to better manage their careers. CALL FOR ARTISTS: THE REYNOLDS-ALBERTA MUSEUM, WETASKIWIN

Filed under: CALLS FOR ENTRIES, CONSIGNMENT, multi-disciplinary | Back to: Homepage

The Reynolds-Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin, Alberta highlights the mechanical history of Transportation, Aviation, Agriculture and Industry in Alberta. We have recently reopened our gift shop after many years with an outside contractor and are in the process of locating new and interesting suppliers. We are looking for artists who are willing to consign items that would enhance our theme - more of a mechanical edge to their designs. Our summer season is our busiest for visitors but we are also looking at attracting a local cliental with an offering of unique Christmas gifts during our off season.

NEW ART NOW, UNIVERSITY OF LETHBRIDGE

Filed under: EDUCATION | Back to: Homepage

The Department of Art at the University of Lethbridge is pleased to announce an important distance learning initiative. Beginning this fall, Art Now, a course that is integral to our art degree programme, will be available to participants online, wherever they live. In a community like Lethbridge, it has been essential for us to find a way of connecting both students and faculty with artists and others in the wider arts community. This course brings the art world to us. It exposes participants to a broader range of contemporary practice than they would normally have in any university course, even those larger urban centres, since busy schedules often prevent us from taking full advantage of the diverse practices a city has to offer.

Art Now, with approximately 30 speakers per term, is an amazing resource for anyone interested in contemporary art. Although it is an integral part of our degree programme, it is very popular with the wider public, and may be of interest especially to art lovers wanting to keep in touch with the latest in the visual arts; with those considering a return to university; or with those who want to engage in university-level discussion about the arts but need a flexible schedule. The course centers on presentations by artists, curators, critics, filmmakers and art historians from across the country and beyond. Each week for the duration of the semester, up to three different speakers (approximately 30 per term) deliver an individualized and unique lecture based on their research practice and creative interests. Presentations are videotaped for the online section of the course, so that registered students may view the lectures according to their personal schedule. Previous speakers have included winners and nominees for the Turner Prize, the Sobey Award, the Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts, representatives of Canada to the Venice Biennale, as well as younger or emerging artists. Through the diverse spectrum of presenters, students are exposed to the latest in contemporary art and get to hear artists discuss their own work in their own words.

If you feel your constituents would like to be informed about this opportunity, please forward this email to them, or direct them to the course website: http://www.uleth.ca/finearts/art/art-now-online If you would like any more information, please feel free to contact Anne Dymond, Ph.D., Associate Professor Department of Art University of Lethbridge Lethbridge, AB T1K 3M4 anne.dymond@uleth.ca 403-380-1853.

BANFF CENTRE CERAMICS STUDIO

Filed under: Canada, RESIDENCIES, ceramic arts | Back to: Homepage

The Ceramics Studio supports artists in the Visual Arts Creative Residencies program. Proposals for ceramics-based projects are accepted from artists applying for Creative Residencies.

The Ceramics Studio offers an exceptional opportunity to work in a generous studio environment, with access to a broad range of equipment designed to support most aspects of contemporary ceramic practice. We are in close proximity to other studio areas such as sculpture, painting, printmaking, photography, and the Digital Film and Media Production department. Access to these facilities is possible through consultation with relevant facility supervisors. Interaction and collaboration with artists in these areas and others is encouraged as part of a residency experience, and our expert staff will do their best to help facilitate your projects.

Please consult with the ceramics facilitator to determine the needs for your project at least two weeks prior to your arrival in Banff.
