CALL FOR PROPOSALS: CRITICAL PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES, INTELLECT

Filed under: CALLS FOR ENTRIES, photographic arts | Back to: Homepage

Proposal for photography and critical text for a new series of photo books by Intellect

Since 1986, Intellect has provided a vital space for widening critical debate in new and emerging subjects. As a leading academic publisher in the fields of creative practice and popular culture, Intellect has a strong list of visual culture and contemporary art focussed publications. We aim to offer a platform for photographers, writers and creative artists to present and critically reflect on their work and to produce original, adventurous projects.

Critical Photography seeks to encourage visual and textual reflection on/with contemporary photography; to marry photographic work and critical texts, representing a balance between the two forms. The series is at the forefront in expanding the notion of critical debate: each book investigates a theoretical issue via two systems of representation, placing them at equal level. Neither text that ‘explains’ pictures nor photography that ‘illustrates’ text, the series addresses aspects of our being and becoming in a thought-provoking and aesthetically stunning form and content.

We are interested to receive proposals both in photography and critical writing for the series. To send a proposal for a volume in the series, please download a questionnaire http://www.intellectbooks.co.uk/MediaManager/File/CriticalPhotography_proposal.doc or contact books@intellectbooks.com.

For further information, contact the series editor Alfredo Cramerotti (alfredo@intellectbooks.com).

ARTIST RESIDENCIES: ATELIER DE LA ROSE, FRANCE

Filed under: Europe, RESIDENCIES | Back to: Homepage

Where: Montcabrier, France
Deadline: open call

Atelier de la Rose is small. That means it is able to offer a personal and flexible service that is unique. There are no fixed dates for residencies, no deadlines, and the studio can be booked for one to six weeks. This is not an establishment that is run by managers or an impersonal organisation or committee. The owner lives on site and has had a long involvement with the visual arts. She has 2 degrees in art and design history and was married to the artist and lecturer, Ed Herring, until his untimely death in 2003. Her understanding of how artists work makes the place special. Of course the facilities, situated in a medieval hilltop village in southwest France, are the additional attractions!
