MacDowell Colony, Artist ResidencyThe MacDowell Colony is designed to facilitate a balance between a focus on work and interdisciplinary interaction. Private studios are available to artists 24 hours a day along with the dining and recreation rooms at Colony Hall, providing an environment adaptable to each individual’s needs. To ensure the autonomy and privacy of all Colonists, no one may visit a studio without an invitation. Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining room while lunch is delivered to each studio. After dinner, occasional presentations are a traditional, elective part of the stimulating and supportive environment. Readings, slide shows, open studios, and informal performances allow Colonists to become acquainted with and inspired by one another’s work. Friendships established among artists-in-residence often lead to collaborations and connections beyond the Colony. (more…)

PYRAMID ATLANTIC ART CENTER KEYHOLDER RESIDENCY

A program that provides concentrated work time for artists to explore new ideas in one of Pyramid Atlantic’s studio disciplines.

Pyramid Atlantic is proud to offer a two month residency opportunity for artists working in the field of printmaking, papermaking, book arts, or digital media. Artists of all career stages are encouraged to apply for this residency. Two artists per session are selected by Pyramid Atlantic’s artistic staff. Resident artists work in a productive community atmosphere alongside other artists, and are expected to be in the studio at least 15-20 hours per week. Technical assistance is not included in the residency, but is available at an additional cost.

A transdisciplinary artistic investigation deeply rooted in the Studies of the Body. A period of 6 months dedicated to a practical daily work which promotes the arising of essential questions brought by each individual in her/his own investigation. This daily work includes reflexion and discussion. Through it the proposals developed by each creator will come to form allowing a growing understanding and a profound knowledge of the matter under investigation. F.I.A is organized in blocs of 3 weeks of practical work focusing on the Body (sensation, perception, movement, relation) tangled with short term proposals from two days to one week long. (more…)

CALL FOR ENTRIES: CELESTE PRIZE 2010

2010 marks the second edition of The Celeste Prize, an international art prize competition. 40,000 euros in awards will be given away to the winners of the five following categories: Painting, Photography and Digital Graphics, Video and Animation, Installation and Sculpture as well as Live Media audiovisual and Performance. The 50 finalists will be chosen by a 21-person international jury. All winners will be invited to exhibit their work in Brooklyn, New York, in December 2010. The competition is open to all artists of any age, gender, profession or experience. Celeste Prize participants are also invited to present two works free in Celeste’s 2010 chosen theme exhibitions in Berlin and New York entitled Expectations which run from September 17 to October 18, 2010. Deadline for the Celeste Prize Competition is September 20, 2010. Deadline to submit works for Expectations is July 31, 2010. www.celesteprize.com

SMITHSONIAN AMERICAN ART MUSEUM: TERRA FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIPS

The Terra Foundation for American Art Fellowships seek to foster a cross-cultural dialogue about the history of art of the United States. They support work by scholars from abroad who are researching American art or by U.S. scholars, especially those who are investigating international contexts for American art. Postdoctoral and senior Terra fellows are eligible for a substantial stipend supplement to assist with research, relocation, and housing costs.

TSV is a not-for-profit artist-run centre for the production, education and dissemination of video by artists and community organizations. Since 1971, TSV has made access to the means of communication its priority, providing a diverse community of video practitioners media-arts related development through workshops, seminars and classes, as well as offering a space for the creation and exhibition of video art. Through its public programming, TSV has advanced the understanding and appreciation of video produced by various community-based groups and numerous internationally recognized artists, such as Michael Balser, John Greyson, Vera Frenkel, Richard Fung, Nancy Nicol, and Lisa Steele and Kim Tomczak. Recently, TSV has presented works by Ursula Biemann, Harry Dodge, Alison Kobayashi, Alex Morrison, Steve Reinke and James Richards, Jayce Salloum, Mark Tribe, Ming Wong, Jin-me Yoon, among others.

TSV is seeking video art that expands understanding of the medium and explores the representations that are constructed through its technological processes. We are eager to hear from artists and curators critically engaged with the social, philosophical and political implications of video in its various forms: video art, video installation, lens-based and non-lens-based digital animation, and video-based photography and works-on-paper.

For the ninth consecutive year, the Koffler Gallery presents The Bookmark Project, an intervention of artist-designed bookmarks concurrent with the annual Toronto Jewish Book Fair organized by the Koffler Centre of the Arts. Unique bookmarks and multiples created by practicing artists and visual art students will be inserted clandestinely into the thousands of books for sale at the 34th Annual Book Fair. The bookmarks will also be presented in an online exhibition at www.kofflerarts.org. (more…)

LORAN SCHOLARSHIPS FOR GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Eligibility: Canadian citizens or permanent residents, graduating year of full-time studies in high school or CEGEP, with minimum cumulative average of 85%.

The Loran Award is open to every graduating high school or cegep student from coast-to-coast-to-coast. Renewable for up to four years, it includes an annual tuition waiver and a stipend of $8,000, access to funding and internships through our summer program, invitations to annual gatherings and forums, and mentorship opportunities.
