Call to Canadian Artists :: Belvedere Transit Centre (RFP)

The Belvedere Transit Centre public art competition, open to professional artists residing in Canada, is held in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy “Percent for Art to Provide and Encourage Art in Public Areas” (C458C).

The Edmonton Arts Council, on behalf of the City of Edmonton, is seeking a Canadian artist or artist team to create an artwork to be installed in one of three locations on the Belvedere Transit Centre site.

Deadline for Submissions: 4:30 pm MST on Monday, September 25, 2017

Location One: Stand-alone artwork in the plaza
Mediums may include, but are not limited to, sculpture, sculptural series, art benches. Artwork can be installed in the planting beds or the hardscape.

Location Two: Hanging artwork in the heated wait area
Mediums may include, but are not limited to, sculpture, sculptural series, mobiles. The selected artist must work with the project team to ensure the artwork does not interfere with security camera sightlines, sprinkler systems, and any wayfinding. Approximate footprint of the ceiling zone is 22 metres long by 6 metres wide. Maximum hanging load of 500 lbs. per roof beam (single point support).

Location Three: Two sculptures at the windows of the unheated wait area
Two sculptures that will visually animate the area for transit centre users and pedestrians on 129 Avenue. Approximate dimensions of each window are 2 metres across by 2.7 metres high. Each window sits approximately 300 mm off the floor.

Budget:
$80,000.00 CAD (maximum, all inclusive)

Installation:
Spring 2018
