The Heritage Valley Park and Ride public art call, open to professional artists residing in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region*, is held in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy “Percent for Art to Provide and Encourage Art in Public Areas” (C458C). Emerging artists and artists not currently represented in the collection are encouraged to apply.

The Edmonton Arts Council, on behalf of the City of Edmonton, seeks an Edmonton-based artist or artist team to create an artwork to be installed Summer 2019 at the Heritage Valley Park and Ride Transit Centre.

 McMullen Gallery's Call for Submissions 2018McMullen Gallery is currently accepting proposals for our 2018 Call For Submissions – due March 31, 2018

McMullen Gallery seeks proposals for the 2019-2020 exhibition season from practicing artists, curators and organizations, with consideration for the meaningful experiences that art allows in a hospital setting.

McMullen Gallery exhibits artwork in all media that is soothing, uplifting, humorous, and/or thought-provoking including but not limited to health-related subject matter. McMullen Gallery considers artwork that is appropriate to potential sensitivities of patients, and also that which may be most impactful to the hospital community.  McMullen gallery pays artists according to CARFAC guidelines, and also covers the cost of opening celebration, invitations, labels and signage.

The Gallery strives to provide a thought-provoking exhibition schedule and corresponding programs that support educationally challenging art and appeal to many audiences. AGSA is committed to profiling a diversity of styles and mediums. The Gallery endeavours to showcase artists who exhibit locally, nationally and internationally.

Calgary | Call for Submissions :: People’s Portrait Prize

People's Portrait PrizeWho This show is open to all Calgary and area artists.
What All artistic mediums are welcome from local artists of all ages.

  • 1 to 3 artworks by each artist. Entry fee is $15 per artwork; $5 per artwork for artists 18 and under.
  • No submissions required prior to the event.
  • Two dimensional artwork must be ready to hang with D-rings/wire or be accompanied by an easel.
  • For sculpture, please bring plinths. Artwork not exhibition ready will not be displayed.
  • NOTE: Space is limited. We will hang at least one work per artist.
  • Artwork must have the artist’s name and contact information on it.
  • Artwork will be judged by a jury in categories and visitors can vote for the People’s Choice Award.
  • Artwork can be for sale. 90% of any art sales will go to the artist.

Calgary | Call for Submissions :: WRECK CITY

WRECK CITY seeks RFQs (Requests for Qualifications) from artists, documentary filmmakers, and critical art writers interested in participating in an experimental artist residency in Calgary. Successful candidates will be willing to engage in collaborative, chaotic, immersive, and independently-motivated situations, and be available throughout the WRECK CITY Residency (June 22 – July 27, 2018) and intermittently during the Public Exhibition (July 28 – August 11, 2018). The location of the Residency is currently secret, but it is located in the Calgary neighbourhood of Marda Loop.

14 artists, collaborative teams, and/or collectives will be selected based on the integrity of their portfolios, availability, intentions, and relationship with DIY art spaces. Artists will receive a $2,000 honourarium and $1,000 for materials/expenses, onsite accommodations are available for out of town artists.

One documentary filmmaker will produce 2 short films – one 1-minute teaser film (to be released prior to the Exhibition’s Opening) and one documentary short chronicling the overall project, $3,000 honourarium.

A Writer-in-Residence will be asked to develop critical writing around the residency and exhibition, $750 honourarium.

Strathcona County | Call for Artists :: The 3rd Annual Hidden Treasures Open Art Studio Tour

Art Society of Strathcona CountyThe Art Society of Strathcona County (ASSC) is please to announce an exciting opportunity for Strathcona County artists – a local home studio tour!  The 3rd Annual Hidden Treasures Open Art Studio Tour is planned for June 23 & 24th, 2018.  This is a self-guided tour of Strathcona County artists’ working studios.  The event is free to the public.  Artists will be able to show and sell any of their artwork in their home studio setting.  The Art Society of Strathcona County provides advertising, promotion and signage.  Registration is limited to 10 non-ASSC members.

Call to Artists | IWS Canada/CSPWC International Festival of Watercolour

iws canada logoThe IWS Canada is part of an international network of watercolour societies. Over the last few years IWS has celebrated watercolour with international festivals and workshops in many countries. Our plan is to continue building on increasing the exposure of watercolour bringing artists together from around the globe and, share our mutual love of watercolour.

This year the IWS Canada and the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour are collaborating to create a exciting event in the Toronto area and we to generate lots of participation. Here are some of the details.

IWS Canada/CSPWC International Festival of Watercolour
September 28 to October 28th, 2018

The festival will feature a juried exhibition in Richmond Hill, Ontario, of about 150 Watercolours by artists across Canada and around the world. The prospectus  for the exhibition, with all relevant information, is available on the IWS Canada website or Facebook page.

Open for submissions: January 15, 2018.
Deadline for submissions: by 6pm EST, March 20, 2018 (late entries will not be accepted).

Edmonton | Call for Submissions – The 2018 Eldon & Anne Foote Edmonton Visual Arts Prize

The Eldon + Anne Foote Edmonton Visual Arts Prize was established with the generous support of the Eldon + Anne Foote Fund at Edmonton Community Foundation and in partnership with the Edmonton Arts Council and Visual Arts Alberta Association. This Visual Arts Prize celebrates the brilliance of Visual Artists in Edmonton.

This prize is open to Edmonton area artists nominated by an individual, a gallery, art group or art organization also located in the Edmonton area (defined as the City of Edmonton and its four surrounding counties). Entries may be in any visual arts media and must have been shown in a greater Edmonton area gallery space during 2017 (January 1, 2017 – December 31, 2017). Submissions will be judged by an independent jury selected by Visual Arts Alberta Association. Deadline for submissions is 4pm on Friday, March 30, 2018. A shortlist will be announced on or before Friday, May 25, 2018. The prize winner will be announced at a short ceremony on June 21, 2018.

Alberta Call to Artists: Evidence of Paint 2018

Visual Arts Alberta ~ CARFAC logoIf you find your creative practice shows evidence of paint (oil, acrylic, water colour) this is an opportunity to have your work seen in Calgary and Edmonton!

We invite Indigenous, Newcomer and Alberta artists from all parts of the province to submit images to Evidence of Paint 2018! It is an excellent opportunity to exhibit your work in a group exhibition. All subject matter, styles and techniques are welcome — as long as they show evidence of paint.

Submission Deadline: Friday April 27, 2018 at 4 pm.

in Edmonton, from late August to mid October, 2018 and in Calgary, from mid October to the end of November, 2018 Actual exhibition dates TBA. The work will be exhibited at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton (North) and Calgary (South). Exhibiting artists will receive a nominal artist fee.

Calgary | Call for Submissions — Cross+Decay Magazine

Cross+Decay is a new art and literary magazine curated by crucifixvi, a Calgary-based multi-media artist and writer. The first issue of this magazine will be launched in Spring 2018, available in print and digital formats.

The magazine will be quarterly, with each issue featuring an over-arching theme. The debut issue is ‘Ghosts’. The work must adhere to this theme, but it is up to the conceptualization and interpretation of the artist. Cross+Decay is looking for prose, poetry, and visual art submissions. Prose can be short fiction or short non-fiction, 500-1000 words. Visual art can be of any medium, including photography and photographs of three-dimensional work.

Deadline for submissions: February 18, 2018

Accepted creators will be paid for their work.

  • Prose- $0.02/word, $0.01/word after 500 words.
  • Poetry- $0.50/line, $0.25/line after 20 lines.
  • Artwork- $15/selected digital file (high quality .jpeg required)

All creators will continue to have full rights to their work.
