Stony Plain | Call for Proposals: HerWORK

HerWORKThe Multicultural Centre Public Art Gallery (MCPAG) is located on the main floor of the Multicultural Heritage Centre in Stony Plain Alberta. It is a publicly funded art gallery graciously supported by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Parkland County, the Town of Stony Plain and visitor donations. Through regularly changing exhibits, special events and of production exhibit catalogues the gallery promotes local and regional artists. The gallery has an opening reception for each exhibit, offering the public an opportunity to meet the Artist and Curator to learn more about the creative process and the artwork itself. All visitors to the Multicultural Heritage Centre have the opportunity to access exhibitions at MCPAG, the Museum and Library free of charge.

This year MCPAG is producing our second annual HerWORK exhibit to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th. We are seeking work, in any medium, that explores themes of contemporary gendered identity, gendered roles and trades or crafts, feminist social and political criticism or history, etc.

The Friends of University Hospitals
The Friends of University Hospitals is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing healing, caring, and compassion for patients, staff, families, and volunteers through social enterprise, arts programming, and community engagement. The Friends’ Arts in Healthcare program, which includes the UAH Art Collection, McMullen Gallery, and the Artists on the Wards programs, is based on the belief that art can do for the healing spirit what treatment and technology can do for the ailing body.

 McMullen Gallery
Opened in 1986 and situated in the University of Alberta Hospital, McMullen Gallery has approximately 1700 visitors per exhibition, including patients, medical staff, hospital visitors and members of the general public. McMullen Gallery exhibits artwork in all media that is soothing, uplifting, humorous, and/or thought-provoking including but not limited to health-related subject matter.

McMullen Gallery consists of 175 running feet of wall space and 2000 square feet of floor space, with 9 foot ceiling height on permanent walls. The gallery has mid-grey fabric coverings and modular track lighting. It faces an extremely busy corridor with a storefront window with additional hanging space.

McMullen gallery pays artists according to CARFAC guidelines, and also covers the cost of opening celebration, invitations, labels and signage.

Okotoks | Call for Submissions: Okotoks Art Gallery 2018 Exhibition Season

curThe Okotoks Art Gallery is now accepting submissions for consideration for the 2018 exhibition season. The deadline for submission of proposals is April 28th, 2017 at 11:59pm (MST). As per standard art gallery practice, the gallery’s exhibition schedule is programmed a full year in advance. This enables the gallery to fulfill provincial and federal government funding requirements and provide adequate planning time to mount significant exhibitions that are supported through educational programs and public relations.

Selection of exhibits for 2018 will be finalized by July 31st, 2017. A selection committee reviews the submissions and final selection occurs through studio visits and correspondence with artists and curators in whom the gallery has an interest.

Gallery of Alberta Media Art (GAMA): GAMA is an exciting micro-cinema programming at Arts Commons in Calgary, Alberta. Through a peer assessment selection process, GAMA programs up to 24 media artists annually running three months in duration. The media art appears on three television monitors located throughout Arts Commons, This project reaches a diverse audience of all ages; content must be suitable for public spaces. Selected artists will be compensated by industry standards.

Visual Arts Studio AssociationThe Visual Arts Studio Association (VASA) of St. Albert, Alberta

VASA, an artist run gallery, is seeking visual art in all mediums and styles for their Canada themed group exhibition, to celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday, from both professional and emerging artists. The show will run the month of July 2017. The deadline for submissions is March 15, 2017. Artists may submit one to 10 pieces for the show.


Alberta | Call for Submissions: Ten Voices 2017 Photographic and Digital Works

These works will be shown in Calgary and Edmonton.

The Salt Spring National Art Prize (SSNAP) is pleased to launch its second national juried competition of Canadian visual art. The intent of SSNAP is to encourage artists whose practice demonstrates originality, quality, integrity and creativity—resulting in significant work with visual impact and depth of meaning.  Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada who are eighteen years of age and older as of January 1, 2016 are invited to submit their two-dimensional and three-dimensional work for consideration. Approximately 50 finalists will be chosen by an independent jury from across Canada. All artists’ submissions will be anonymous to the jury.

Artists and creators from Edmonton and surrounding areas, you are invited to submit your work for SHOWCASE: small spaces/big ideas.

SHOWCASE: small spaces/big ideas is a community art project that highlights the work of local artists and creators. Taking inspiration from the building’s own architectural zinc tiles, the SHOWCASE wall was designed by local design firm Oliver Apt.

It is a constellation of 26 mini-exhibition spaces available for 1-month bookings by anyone of any age, experience or background who wants to show their artwork at the AGA. Each month brings a different exhibition and a new look at the diversity of Alberta creativity.
