The Eldon + Anne Foote Edmonton Visual Arts Prize was established with the generous support of the Eldon + Anne Foote Fund at Edmonton Community Foundation and in partnership with the Edmonton Arts Council and Visual Arts Alberta Association. This Visual Arts Prize celebrates the brilliance of Visual Artists in Edmonton.
This prize is open to Edmonton area artists nominated by an individual, a gallery, art group or art organization also located in the Edmonton area (defined as the City of Edmonton and its four surrounding counties). Entries may be in any visual arts media and must have been shown in a greater Edmonton area gallery space during 2017 (January 1, 2017 – December 31, 2017). Submissions will be judged by an independent jury selected by Visual Arts Alberta Association. Deadline for submissions is 4pm on Friday, March 30, 2018. A shortlist will be announced on or before Friday, May 25, 2018. The prize winner will be announced at a short ceremony on June 21, 2018.

We invite Indigenous, Newcomer and Alberta artists from all parts of the province to submit images to Evidence of Paint 2018! It is an excellent opportunity to exhibit your work in a group exhibition. All subject matter, styles and techniques are welcome — as long as they show evidence of paint.
Submission Deadline: Friday April 27, 2018 at 4 pm.

Cross+Decay is a new art and literary magazine curated by crucifixvi, a Calgary-based multi-media artist and writer. The first issue of this magazine will be launched in Spring 2018, available in print and digital formats.
The magazine will be quarterly, with each issue featuring an over-arching theme. The debut issue is ‘Ghosts’. The work must adhere to this theme, but it is up to the conceptualization and interpretation of the artist. Cross+Decay is looking for prose, poetry, and visual art submissions. Prose can be short fiction or short non-fiction, 500-1000 words. Visual art can be of any medium, including photography and photographs of three-dimensional work.
Deadline for submissions: February 18, 2018
Accepted creators will be paid for their work.
- Prose- $0.02/word, $0.01/word after 500 words.
- Poetry- $0.50/line, $0.25/line after 20 lines.
- Artwork- $15/selected digital file (high quality .jpeg required)
All creators will continue to have full rights to their work.

The City of Lethbridge Art Committee is seeking an Artist to design and fabricate a sculpture to be installed in a prominent Downtown Lethbridge gateway located at the NW corner of 5th Street (Round Street) and 6th Avenue South. The intent of the project is to provide a permanent piece of public art that creates a welcoming, appealing entrance to the Downtown and celebrates the presence of the Lethbridge Multicultural Centre, home of the Southern Alberta Ethnic Association. The highly visible Round Street location is a special gateway into the Downtown. Through a combination of public art and comprehensive landscaping, it is the intention to create an entry experience that reflects the unique environment, history and culture of the Downtown.

The PTS Art Gallery provides accessible wall display space for Calgary and Alberta visual artists to display and sell their work, free from commission. We are asking any artists who identifies as an Emerging Artist (under 5 years of professional experience) to submit for this exhibit.

The Fable Gardens Ltd is looking for a painter(s) to do artwork in their visitor area. Visit the following links to give you a better idea of our project and our goal.

This magical project requires the skills and imagination of an artist to complete our visitor’s area. We would like to do at least 2 – a 3D painting that gives the impression of the floor falling away into a canyon, lake or river. Also in the area we would like to do murals showing the children building the daycare. We have a budget of $2000-3000 per piece to a maximum of $15,000.
Since we want to open for tourists next spring we need this work done by the 1st of April 2018. We look forward to hearing from you next week.

Call for Submissions Spring 2018
In the Northern hemisphere, the North Star (or Polaris) is known as the guiding star in a night sky. Located nearest the north celestial pole, Polaris shows us where due north is and has been used historically as a way-finder and reference point. Junction North Gallery, inspired by the North Star, is a hub and a reference point in Western Canada that brings together creative projects and emergent ideas from the fields of art, design and environmental studies.
What is Junction North Gallery
Junction Gallery (JN) is a micro-sized, ‘green’, touring art and craft gallery and art centre based in Calgary. Each contemporary art exhibition is juried from a selection of works submitted during our calls for submission which occur multiple times per year.
For this open call, we are especially interested in small-scale 2D works in any medium that engage with the theory and/or practice of: contemporary landscape, cultural geography, space and place, the built and the natural environments, consumer culture, slow living, sustainable living, environmental stewardship, renewable energy technology, upcycled or recycled materials or related themes.

- Artwork must be delivered ready to hang (wall-space only)
Installation Requirements: All art should be equipped with picture hanging wire or appropriately placed D or Triangle ring hanger. Frames less than 9/16” depth with no attachment can typically be accommodated.

As you know, the residents of Fort McMurray are in the process of rebuilding not only homes but also their lives in general.
The earlier response to a previous letter was lovely as many of you want to donate a piece of original art work to the families of Ft. Mac. We know the value of original art exceeds the price. The true value is the energy it brings to home and we know this will aid in their rebuilding and healing.
Fort MacMurry’s Health Care Centres are reporting that most of the residents are dealing with some level of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder from deep depression to headachesand anxiety. This is true for the children as well as the adults. We have seen the benefits of the Arts involvement in rebuilding communities and as visual artist we would like to do our part. Our goal is to provide a piece of original art for the residents who wish to partake in this.

The Salt Spring National Art Prize (SSNAP) Announces the 2017 Call For Artist Submissions Offering $30,000 Worth Of Awards
The Salt Spring National Art Prize (SSNAP) is pleased to launch its second national juried competition of Canadian visual art. The intent of SSNAP is to encourage artists whose practice demonstrates originality, quality, integrity and creativity—resulting in significant work with visual impact and depth of meaning. Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada who are eighteen years of age and older as of January 1, 2016 are invited to submit their two-dimensional and three-dimensional work for consideration. Approximately 50 finalists will be chosen by an independent jury from across Canada. All artists’ submissions will be anonymous to the jury.
