The Gushul Studio and Cottage, situated in the town of Blairmore, Alberta, Canada, opened in 1988 as a site for creative residencies for professional artists and writers. Owned by the University of Lethbridge and managed through the Gushul Studio Residency Program Committee, Faculty of Fine Arts, this facility has hosted over 200 artists, scholars and other professionals, and has offered inspiration and sanctuary for the production of their work.

City of Calgary Public Art Program – Artist Residency Announcement – WATERSHED+

ARTIST RESIDENCIES: As part of the ground-breaking WATERSHED+ Pilot Project, the Public Art Program, Utilities and Environmental Protection (UEP) and Parks are pleased to announce its artist residency opportunities are filled, underway and gaining momentum.

Artists Rachel Duckhouse, Nick Millar & Minty Donald, Broken City Lab and Jay Mosher & Rory Middleton will, at various times, be in residence at Ralph Klein Park (RKP) between now and December 2013.

Through their art practice, the residency artists will engage the community in a dialogue, and explore issues relevant to Calgary’s watershed, water management and the Park environment. (more…)

Soi Fischer is pleased to announce the establishment of the Thematic Residency Program at Artscape: Gibraltar Point in Toronto, Canada.
As part of its mandate to make international contemporary art accessible to a wider public, Soi Fischer is debuting its Education and Public Programming at Artscape Gibraltar Point, which provides short-term accommodation and studio space for artists to research and develop their contemporary art practice.

Thematic Residency Program at Artscape Gibraltar Point

Artist in Residence Program: RED DEER COLLEGE

Artist In Residence Program Red Deer College has expanded its Visual Arts facility in the newly opened Center for Visual Art in the Four Centers Building and now has three purpose built Artist-in-Residence Studios.

The studios are designed to attract artists to Red Deer and to give an opportunity for emerging and professional artists alike to engage in research in an inspiring environment with equipment that they would not otherwise have access to.

The ambition of the program is to promote meaningful interaction between the students, the resident artists and the community at large. The AIR studios are available during two 15 week periods; September to December and January to April coinciding with the academic year.

The Call for Submissions for the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, Ontario is on-going.  The Resident Artist Program has been created to provide opportunities for a blend of recent graduates of arts and design institutions, as well as mid-career artists, to create, explore, learn and exchange ideas and insights, within a mulch-disciplinary environment.

There are eight professional studios, in wood, flame-working, glass, sculpture, textiles and fibre ares, photography, glass, sculpture, textiles and fibre arts, photography, painting and drawing, and ceramics.  Short and long term residencies are available.

MEDALTA INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE, ALBERTA – CERAMICS

The MIAIR Program is designed to serve artists at all stages of their career. Students and artists at all stages of their career are able to pursue their artistic investigations together in our spacious semi-private studios. The residency experience is one of cooperation and creativity. This collaborative spirit extends beyond the studio and spills over into the community in the form public events, sales, classes, and special events. Artists also bring their diverse cultural experiences, specialized technical abilities, educational backgrounds, and most importantly an endless variety of definitions of what a ceramic art practice can be.

Set against the dramatic cliffs of the South Saskatchewan River in Medicine Hat, Alberta, the 150 acre Historic Clay District was once home to some of Canada’s most important clay factories, including Medalta Potteries, Hycroft China, National Porcelain and Alberta Clay Products. Today, this history is being preserved with the unique Medalta Potteries National Historic Site, providing the setting for a living, working museum.

Medalta offers 5 main residency opportunities each year. In addition, they are able to accommodate a small number of special requirests for short-term residencies at certain times of the year.  For more information please visit their website.
