Is great art produced within the greater Edmonton region? If you answered yes read on…And if you are one of the few who answered no, we want to convince you to change your mind.
The Eldon & Anne Foote Edmonton Visual Arts Prize was established with the generous support of the Eldon & Anne Foote Fund at Edmonton Community Foundation and in partnership with the Edmonton Arts Council and Visual Arts Alberta Association. This Visual Arts Prize is a brand new award that celebrates the brilliance of Visual Artists in Edmonton.
In the inaugural year, an independent jury composed of three art professionals from outside the Edmonton area (Robert Steven — Executive Director / Curator, Art Gallery of Grande Prairie; Cindy Baker –performance / multimedia artist, Saskatoon; and Barbara Amos, painter / multimedia artist, Calgary and Crowsnest Pass), evaluated submissions and a short list of five Edmonton Visual Artists emerged. The short listed artists for the first Eldon & Anne Foote Edmonton Visual Arts Prize in alphabetical order are: Paul Freeman, Alan Henderson, David Janzen, Amy Loewan, and Arlene Wasylynchuk. One of these artist will end up with a cash prize of $10,000. The winner will be announced at 7:30pm on June 21st, 2012 during a reception at Visual Arts Alberta Gallery (3rd floor, 10215 112 Street, Edmonton) celebrating our summer exhibition, the opening of The Works Festival and the summer solstice.
