Youkobo Art Space provides a unique space for wide-ranging international exchange and cross-cultural experience, where foreign and domestic artists and people from the local community can meet and communicate with one another through exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and a variety of other events.

Youkobo Art Space is located in a tranquil residential suburb in Suginami City, central Tokyo. Youkobo Art Space is a comprehensive art facility comprised of two unique working studios, two residential spaces, a gallery, and a community lounge. Artist pays cost of using the facilities, travel and living expenses, all materials expenses.

These nine unique studios, each designed by a distinguished Canadian architect, are located in a secluded wooded area of The Banff Centre. The studios offer a concentrated, retreat environment to professional artists engaged in the creation of new work.

Applications are accepted from artists of a variety of disciplines: writers, composers, singer-songwriters, visual artists, screenwriters, playwrights, literary translators, curators, art theorists, and professionals working in theatre, dance and film at the conceptualization or research stage of a project.  Acceptance is based on an application/adjudication process.

ARTIST RESIDENCY: CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS CENTER, WOODSIDE NY

The Contemporary Artists Center is located on the campus of the Woodside National Historic Register Site in Troy, NY. Two neo-gothic stone church buildings now house the artist program and welcome artists from all over the U.S. and abroad. The CAC focuses on emerging contemporary artists and accepts applicants who offer quality in their art and encourages diversity of style, medium (2-D, 3-D, 4-D) and concepts. The residency program offers artists the time and support to create new work and fosters an environment that encourages creativity, experimentation, and collaboration.

Artists pay a fee per/week. Fellowships and work exchange available. Artists provide their own materials and specialized equipment, as well as food and transportation. Pick-up from local train station and airport is available.

The CAC is located in the Historic Woodside Chapel in Troy NY, the interior of which has been renovated and converted into artist studios and living spaces. Troy is part of the capital region of Upstate New York.

ARTIST RESIDENCY: TAKT KUNSTPROJEKTRAUM, BERLIN

Takt offers 10 rooms to active artists visiting Berlin. The residency arised from the takt kunstprojektraum project, a non-profit, artist-run effort, founded in 2003. The main goal of the residency program is to provide artists visiting Berlin quick access to an environment that will foster their creative energies. Participating artists are invited and expected to explore their creative paths. The artists participating in the program have the opportunity to participate in open studio events. The residency has a strong element of community living. It merges a community living environment with creative artistic exploration. The rooms are all on the same floor, on either side of an L-shaped hallway. There are two kitchens and two bathrooms, which are shared by all those in the space. A series of meetings is organized each month, where people can present their work and exchange ideas. The goals are to create a platform for dynamic exchange, to allow the possibility for spontaneous collaborations, and to build up networks among artists. (more…)

ARTIST RESIDENCY: APOTHIKI FOUNDATION, GREECE

Apothiki aims at introducing artists and organizations to the island atmosphere of Paros – a creative environment that has inspired artists for more than 5000 years – and further develop Paros as a meeting place for creative people from around the globe. In cooperation with artists, art galleries, foundations and cultural institutions – both Greek and international, this multi-functional space will host contemporary art exhibitions and cultural events and provide a working and living space for artists in residence.  The Residency program is part of a wider range of activities organised in the art centre such as exhibitions, concerts and seminars. Artists, scholars, art managers and critics are invited to submit their application for a 2 to 4 week residency to take place in 2010 or 2011. The program will start in April 2010. ARTIST RESIDENCY: BAU INSTITUTE, ITALY

Otranto Arts and Writing Residency, is a two week summer program for artists and writers to pursue independent work in a community of peers sharing a uniquely rich historical setting. The workshop offers a haven for creative rejuvenation that aims to open possibilities and paths into the work of the participants. From June 1 to June 30, a select group of up to 15 artists and writers engage in an intensive cultural and creative experience. A ten day stay can be arranged if necessary. Residents live in apartments in the ancient walled city by the sea. They work in the visual arts studio in the Castle of Otranto. Field trips include the neighboring towns of Lecce and Galatina as well as ancient neolithic sites. The place, the light, the unexpected connections of life and materials, architecture, music and the people, have proved to be inspirational in the delicate process leading to change in the relationship between matter and thought. The residency is an opportunity for artists to concentrate and interact while leaving space to dream.

  • A $35 administration fee is required to secure the date of application.
  • The total cost of the residency is 1600 Euros.
  • A non-refundable deposit of 600 Euros is due in advance, or until all spaces are filled.
  • There are currently a few spaces available.
