Draw More Income EP17: Stacey Bru (ft. Trevor Gieske)

We’re back! Sorry for the wait! We’ve got a fantastic new episode with the incredible Stacey Bru, the Alberta-based zine maker and writer of Anxiety Comics. Stacey came to the Draw More income podcast for a little while in late September to chat about all things zine culture and how she manages the professional aspects of this work. Stacey is a maker, a teacher, a business-person, and all around nice person. She’s totally fascinating and we hope you enjoy.

However, we’d also like to thank our guest host for this week, Trevor Gieske! We thought this might be a fun way to bring something new to the podcast and also help you get a more in-depth look at topics that Sara and Graeme might not have the expertise in. Trevor works for the Calgary comic book store Phoenix Comics in Inglewood (http://www.phoenix-comics.ca/) and co-runs the Indie Comics Coffee Klatsch at Gravity Espresso and Wine Bar with Stacey.

We’d also would like to thank the Alberta Printmaker’s Society again for letting us record in their space. As well, we record this show on traditional territories of the Blackfoot and the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Siksika, the Piikuni, the Kainai, the Tsuu T’ina, and the Stoney Nakoda First Nations. The City of Calgary is also home to the Metis Nation of Alberta, Region III.

Draw More Income EP16: art af podcast

Well, it’s better late than never for a podcast! This month is a little behind, but we’re glad to bring you this interview with Jane Christensen and Claire Coutts, also known as the hosts of “art af,” a podcast about Calgary’s visual arts scene brought to you every month via Calgary’s CJSW radio station. I’m glad I got a chance to speak with these two about podcasting and how it plays into their lives and the lives of contemporary artists.

To hear the show live, tune into CJSW 90.9FM in Calgary the first Monday of every month.

Draw More Income EP3: Brian Malkinson

Episode three of Draw More Income is upon us! In this edition, Graeme Dearden sits down with his local MLA, Brian Malkinson, in the Calgary-Currie district to discuss the function of MLAs, why artists should contact them and other elected officials, and particularly how to engage with people you might not agree with.

He also wanted me to link here for all you artists looking for potential government granting opportunities: http://culture.alberta.ca/about/grants/

You can see what Brian is up to on Twitter @BrianMalkinson.
